I am at a crossroads right now in my life where something has got to change. I have gained so much weight in the last 2 years that today I don't even recognize myself. I have decided that something has to be done because not only am I uncomfortable but I am so tired nowadays.

I have a treadmill at home and I find that after exercising for 2 weeks I get so bored. I am thinking about going back to the gym. What do you think? Is this a waste, seeing that I have a treadmill at home? What should I do?

the gym does have more options, but the cost is high.....I personally have had the same problem, and my husband and I have tried going back to the gym (we used to go to one together and were quite fit but we stopped- together, imagine that) and it did not work out for us. I now use the gym at my college on occassion only because it is free. I personally think that finding time to do things at home or outside is a better option. Like crunches while watching tv...taking dogs for long walks, etc. I have a treadmill at home as well, and it can get boring, mix it up. Go for a run outside if possible, take the stairs and go up and down a couple times, stuff like that....find a hobby you like that involves excercise...it will last longer. I used to do Taekwondo and that lasted way longer than the gym ever did.

You probably got bored because exercise can be boring.

Treadmills are fine if you're a hamster in a little plastic cage going crazy and that's all you have to do.

If you are thinking about going back to the gym you should first think about why you left in the first place.

So what to do?

Quit exercising. Find something you enjoy doing, find someone else who enjoys doing the same thing, and go do it and have fun.

Try walking, especially in new places where you can enjoy the time. Maybe bike riding. A pool with an exercise program. Climb some stairs. Walk around the mall. There's all sorts of ways to exercise that are cleverly disguised as fun. If you do go to the gym look into classes or programs where you can share the time, and, have some accountability, meaning you are expected to show up. Maybe a personal trainer.

And again, find someone to do it with, much easier when you have a committment to someone else and can have a good time.

Quit dieting. Eat reasonably. Enjoy your food, try new things, do your research. Food is fun, but do it right.

Above all else, whatever you do, do something, don't give in

Well, a gym is better as it has more for you to do than just the treadmill. Most gyms also have a sauna. I LOVE them. They (to me) are very comfortable and you sweat off a ton. I would go to the gym have a nice vigorous workout and then hit the showers then the sauna, then the showers again before I left. It worked for me. Also at a gym they usually have some trainers that can assist you.

i have been there......walking on treadmill can be boring and monotonous. You should join an aerobics class at a gym and make lots of friends there..this will keep you motivated for long long time. Also swimming is not boring! its much fun. You can join YMCA....if you are into some sports (like squash or tennis) that can be very entertaining and keep you motivated for a long long time! ....good luck lady!

go kick boxing, preferably contact sparring type, e.g. Muay Thai... kick the fats away. simple answer to you.

Now treadmill, useful, but doesn't beat jogging outside, more interesting things to see and motivates you to run further.

Go Gym, plan what you want yourself, cut fats? build lean muscles? build bulky muscles? gym is one place with different goals.
