In general, how would you try to get to know or ask out someone who worked at a store?

More specifically, how would you handle my situation? Okay, here it is:
I go to the bookstore frequently, and started noticing this girl who worked there because she would look at me often. So, one day I went up to her and asked for help. She was nice of course, and seemed to try to keep the conversation going. I told her I come in there a lot and have seen her around, and she told me how long she's been working there etc. In the end I smiled and said thank you.

Alright, now what? Next time I see her, what should I do? Should I go up to her and thank her for her help last time? Maybe ask for her name, number? I'm clueless. Thanks in advance!

I am going to do the best I can to put myself in her shoes to answer your question. Ok. I think that if possible, when you go in next, you could ask her about something, say a certain topic (you pick), and if she has any literature on it. If she recommends some reading material for you, buy it. Then READ it. When you go back, tell her how helpful the reading material was!! And how its nice to have an intelligent person such as herself to have assisted you. Then possibly, after a couple of compliments, you could mention, in conversation, something that would indicate that you are available and single, and are interested in..... and does she or has she ever ,.....(been to the beach, or whatever you choose). Depending on her reaction to the question, (does she light up as she suspects that you may be considering asking her out, or does she get a somewhat concerned look on her face - even if just for a moment - that may indicate that she is not available), then if her "response" is a positive one, then you could ask if she would like to sometime go and.....

Or, ask about her interests and hobbies in casual conversation, while also trying to find out if she is available. If it does seem as though she is available, you could bring her a gift of somesort that is related to one of her "interests". Then you could, if you get a good response from the gift, ask her if she would like to go out with you to show you how to...... (her hobby, if applicable).

Don't forget to compliment her respectfully, but each time you see her. (That she looks very nice, or "wow, her hair is so shiny" or something like that.)

Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck to you.... no, wait, Good Luck to both of you!!!! I wish you all the best and I will be thinking of you both and hoping that things work out great!!!!!

"Wow - you gave me some great advice last time. The book you suggested was excellent! Any chance that you will accept my offer of thanks?" Then give her a small box of Godiva Chocolates. Yes, quality chocolate is key here. Smile, laugh, positive energy, and give excellent eye contact. She may melt before the chocolate does. But do nothing more.

Next three visits, be just oh so kind and upbeat with that eye contact going. Then by the 4th visit, you'll know the vibe enough to know if she'll want to take it the next step to venture out for coffee or a meal with you. A certain amount of 'cat and mouse' without the rush factor makes it more fun and romantic, but without the crash and burn potential.

Just walk up to her and ask her to a cup of coffee (especially cool if the store has a coffee bar - buy her something on her break). Nice ice breaker, and it will be casual. Good luck!

You could become a voracious reader and keep getting her to help you...

Or you could just go in and ask her if she'd like to go for a coffee or drink after work :)
