Yes. Hydroponics, roots suspended in slow flowing and/or aerated (bubbles) water. Not all vegetables and plants can do that. The roots rot.

Sure...I've grown alfalfa sprouts in a petri dish with nothing but a wet paper towel. :)

Yes, but you have to be careful. Sometimes the roots rot.
