Does EGCG really help boost metabolism?
If so, how much?
Also did you see that commercial about the Green Tea? Does it really have that much EGCG in it?
Should I consider drinking this Green Tea on a regular basis?

EGCG does help boost metabolism.

Mebotalism study

A 1999 study conducted Dr Dulloo in the University of Geneva found that it increases metabolism by 4% a day.

10 healthy men participated in the study. They drank either green tea extract, caffeine or placebo during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The green tea extract beverage contained 90 milligrams of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and 50 milligrams of caffeine.

EGCG, found in the highest concentration in green tea, is the most active and best researched of all green tea catechins.

The caffeine beverage contained 50 milligrams of caffeine.

The researchers found that those who drank green tea extract burns 4% more energy over 24 hours compared to the placebo.

In addition, green tea also helps burn fat and block fat absorption.

I haven't seen the commercial, but according to a study conducted by USDA, a hot brew of loose-leaf or original teabag is the healthiest.

USDA report

A 2007 report published by the US Department of Agriculture compares nearly 400 foods for their EGCG content.

The USDA report measures EGCG content for each gram of tea leaves brewed in 100 millimetres of water. One cup is 8-ounce, or about 225 millimetres.

Top of the list is an original brew of green tea. One cup of brewed green tea contains a whopping 180 milligrams of EGCG content in green tea.

But not all types of green tea is equally healthy.

It seems that the longer green tea has been processed, the more nutrients it loses.

Decaffeinated brewed green tea contains only 60 milligrams, about a third of the EGCG found in naturally caffeinated green tea.

Flavored brewed green tea has 45 milligrams.

Bringing up the rear is instant green tea with only a pitiful 9 milligrams.

Hope it helps.

I'm not sure if it boosts metabolism, but it sure does contain a lot of anti oxidants which are definitely healthy for you.

I did not see that commercial on green tea.

I think the replacement of drinking tea is good for you in that you won't be drinking sodas or highly sugared juices. It's just a great healthy low calorie drink that has huge health benefits.

they probably both have antioxidants and EGCG, but not as much as freshly brewed tea. sorry but I just can't see processed bottled tea to be as fresh as freshly made tea.
