This was the result of dried blood on your cat from fleas feeding on him...if it was enough to turn the water red I would think your cat might be anemic from having so many fleas. This is NOT normal. Also, a flea bath is NOT going to control the fleas, any fleas in your house (in carpets, couches, etc.) will just jump right back on the cat, and any unhatched eggs will hatch. You need a long term flea control such as Advantage or Frontline, these will kill the fleas and the eggs. Baths do nothing but kill the fleas on the cat at the moment, and usually does not even kill ALL of them.

Oh my! Your poor kitty must have had a really bad flea infestation! The red color of the bath water comes from the flea droppings left in the cat's coat. Fleas feed on blood so their droppings contain the red platelets that they do not use. The only thing yu need to be concerned about is getting the flea situation under control. I mean, you see now how much blood your kitty can lose from these nasty fleas! Why not get a very good spot-on flea medication for your cat like Frontline or Advantage? But wait 2 weeks before applying becuase you just gave kitty a flea-bath.

thats ok it's from the fleas poop. We got a dog from the pound and when we bathed him the water was the same because he had lots of fleas. Try a flea repelent like advantage you put it once a month on the back of your cats neck you can buy it at the vet or pet shop. you will not have to bath you cat as regularly if you are only doing it for the fleas. i put it on my cat and she never has fleas.

It's ok, the red color is from the "flea dirt", or in other words, the flea poop that has accumulated on your cat. Fleas suck blood and then their poop looks like very small dark specks all over the skin and in the fur. It actually has a reddish color because of the blood the fleas have ingested. I'm sure your cat feels much better now... :-)

Ask a vet.. Also, stay away from the discount pet supply places, they dont know what their selling. You have to be very carefull with cats, since they lick their hair to clean theirselves..........

Cats don't usually bleed when you wash them -have you looked for any cuts etc. on your cat? Have you read the directions on the shampoo--maybe its supposed to turn red.
