Since i started working were i do, my movie collection has grown noticably larger....and almost every day my mother yells at me for it!! I'm not paying 20$ for my movies, they are mostly 10$ or less....they are previously viewd ones....and i get some on sale at Best Buy when they have their nice sales on movies.

Its not like i'm spending my money on drugs or anything like that....why would someone make such a big deal?

and i don't buy that many cd's as i used to...but she still makes comments about my music collection too...

Because that's how most mothers are with their daughters (I'm assuming you're a girl as your screen name says "Brown Eyed Girl").

I recently saw something on TV about common problems between mothers and daughters, and one is mothers constantly critisizing and/or always having something to say about their daughters or what their daughters do or don't do.

I know my mother does this too...and I'm 28! My mom is always telling me how to raise my daughter and what she thinks I'm doing wrong in my parenting skills. It bothered me a lot up until recently when I realized I'm a WAY better mother to my daughter than she ever was to me. So now I just mentally block her out because I know what she's saying if full of crap.

Even though you're 20 and legally an adult, that doesn't mean your mom is going to think of you as an adult. Actually, your mom is probably always going to think of you as her "little girl" and try to tell you to live life the way SHE wants you to live it. It's a mother's natural instinct...like it or not.

If I were you, I'd say, "Mom, I'm an adult now and I'd really appreciate it if you'd mind your own business regarding what I decide to spend my money on. If I were spending my money on drugs, something illegal, or just blowing it with nothing to show for it or neglecting my bills for shopping sprees, then there would be good reason for concern and opinions on your part but I'm not. Your critisizing is ruining our relationship. I need you to trust me to do the right things and stop critisizing me. When I want your opinion, I'll ask for it."

Good luck. :-)

Well, my dad always said "the cd's will always be there, stop wasting your money"(in that im the dad tone of voice) but he was right though and your mom is too. if i had saved the thousands of dollars i spent on cds, i would be pretty comfortable now!Your mom cares about your and wants to see you be comfortable too, so you should cut it down to a cd or 2 a month, and maybe start a savings account, something that will really help you in the future, whats a cd gonna do if your car breaks down, know what i mean?

I don't know how old you are, but if you are under 18, I would think she is only trying to teach you to budget your money. Or, if you are older than 18, and you still live at home, and you are not paying bills or rent, then she probably doesn't appreciate you spending any of your money on stuff like that when, perhaps, you should contribute to the expenses, or something like that.

SHe probably thinks your wasting your money, just try to keep them out of her way. You know you can download music and movies instead of buying them. I would sugest keeping them in a cd case wallet instead of the case it came in, you can store 100 or so, that way she wont know how many you are buying

If I were your mother I would be glad that you were buying Cd's and nothing bad. Happy collecting.

if your paying your rent and your bills, i dont see a big deal about it.next time she makes a comment that u are spending to much on them, ask her if she rather u be spending it on drugs, and booze, that will either make her think and stop yelling, or just make your life harder!!!!!!
good luck
