as a student you are far ahead of many that are out there. It's so easy for me to see that many people are just plain dysfuntional. It depends on your perception of whats important to sustain an emotional relationship. We are what we were raised to. Most everything we know about relationships is learned from the home. We pick up a few things from our peers, but most is learned at a very young age and if we don't get enough love then we can spiral into just about anything depending on our backgrounds and how we deal with society. I see it everyday. Jealousy, selfishness, insecurity, low self esteem, shyness, lack of confidence. At the same time I also see compassion, love, guidance, self reliance and diligence. You get what you give and everything is connected to everything. It would be great to just pluck what you want and live happily ever after but it rarely happens. Stay true to yourself and it will be easy to find what you value most in other people and you will also attract what you feel is important from where you never expect it. Be proud of where you came from and forgive the past and future mistakes because you will make them. The greatest gift you have is your mind and soul. You can steer yourself to anything you desire including the ideal mate.

I think that you are going to find that "communication" between the sexes are very very different for most people. Some couples believe that sex is the main form of communication, others violence. I believe that the one thing that every lasting couple has, regardless of homo, hetero, trans-gender relationships, is respect. If there is respect there can be trust, loyalty, love, fidelity, honesty and all the other good stuff. The partners need to see the other as an equal on some level, or else it just falls apart.

I think your making a loving relationship very complicated. We all can communicate and pursue the opposite sex. Your making much ado about something simple!

As a male, I don't feel I was born with the ability to communicate well with females. Took a lot of learning, and I sitll don't think I am good at it, at all.
