It really depends on what stage it is. Lung cancer can be very deadly. Dana Reeve's (superman's wife) had it. If caught early then there are better odds for longer life. Treatment can be chemo or radition depending on how much lung is involved. My mother just got diagnosed with "non-smokers" lung cancer in early Nov. They have given her 6-12 months to live. She went thru 6 chemo treatments. Her cancer has spread to her bones so they can't give her radition. Go online to get more info. But, mainly be supportive - it is a tough thing and your mom and her friend will need your love and caring. I wish her the best and you the best!

if already diagnosed as lung cancer then you should know which type it is as treatment modality is different. but don't worry it is curable.
