So many people criticise others' religion. My question is "If you were marooned with one other person, would it really make any difference what their religion was? Wouldn't such things as religious differences become unimportant in a situation like that? How about their ethnicity or race?

Personally I would think that, in that situation, if I thought there was no hope that we would ever escape or be found then what the person believed would be of great importance to me. It would matter more than anything else at the time!

First and foremost is that if that person and I were to die in that place I would want to be sure they had the assurance that they were prepared for life after death. As a Christian I would have to be the most uncaring person that ever lived if I held the truth from someone who was dying that could give them an eternity of peace and love in God's presence. Because I know beyond all doubt that such peace is available to every person who will believe I would be ecstatic to see that other person receive Christ as their Saviour and Lord before it was eternally too late. To take one soul to Heaven with me would be worth more than anything else on earth!

The persons background, race or creed would not make a difference to me because Christ died for all men, women and children who would believe in their hearts that He came to save them from sin, death and Hell. God is not a respecter of persons - in other words, He is not prejudiced and will save all who will call upon Him from an honest heart.

I can imagine entering His presence and bringing along my friend who I was marooned with while all the angels and saints of God were rejoicing with us and praising God for His mercy toward us. What a wonderful time it would be! What more could anyone ask than to take someone to Heaven with them as the final act of their life? What an awesome gift from God to be used that way!!!

The only thing I'd be worried about is whether or not they're a cannibal, really.

As for religion, I would only care if they were the kind of religious person who goes around trying to convert everyone, speaking to nonbelievers in condescending tones, and referring to certain hardships as "tests from God" and the like. However, this would only cause me to grow EXTREMELY annoyed with them. If they were less religious, I don't think it'd ever even come up enough to matter.

Ethnicity and race-wise, I simply wouldn't care. I don't see why I should; people are people. (If someone says that this is hypocritical to what I said earlier about being marooned with a religious person, I'd just like to point out that race can't really cause annoyance in the way that preaching about how one religion is the "true" belief system can.)

Ethnicity or race no. But, I sure hope they are not a city slicker. Religion even more important in such times of crisis. Even in the worse cases God can lift us up and make us stand. It would be nice to have someone who could lift their voice with mine, but the nice thing is even if they are not it gives me a captive audience.

I'd like to think in this day and age another person's spiritual politics shouldn't matter, but alas, it does. If I was marooned somewhere I think I'd like to be marooned with a Mormon. When at last the time came that desperation reared it's ugly cannibalistic head, they wouldn't taste any different, but if I never got rescued I'd still be able to say, "At least I got to eat that Mormon."

Well once I came to the conclusion that the island we were on only had the ecological capacity to support one person in the long term it would make me feel much better if they were a Christian. That way when I tied them up and cast them off on a tiny, poorly constructed raft into the ocean then I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not I had just put them on the fast track to hell.

Ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, and religion become completely unimportant in situations like this since the main point is survival.

If that other person brought up religion in a situation like that, I'd be marooned alone from that point on!

Ethnicity and race wouldn't make a difference, religion might since christians are always shoving their views down others throats.

I would rather be alone than with a dogmatical religious person who couldn't make reasonable decisions but just sat around praying for God to save us.

I wouldn't care at all what race or ethnicity someone was but if they were loudly religious, I'd rather be dead. (A quietly religious person would be okay but I'd sure like someone I could talk to and laugh and cry with instead of always worrying about offending someone's imaginary friend.)

If it was a hot nymphomaniac blonde...I wouldn't care.

(Seriously, check out the movie "Hell in the Pacific"...the old version. It is about a marine and a Japanese soldier that get marooned on an island together during WW2...great movie)
