It is just my observation but it seems that a lot of people who are gay tend to take the position that everyones opinion towards gay people (especially if its against it) is automatically a gay bashing opinion.......what do you think - honestly...

And might I add that color and sexual preferences are two DIFFERENT things........its funny that automatically some folks assume Im black and use the race card in response to this posting......skin color you cannot change - unless you are Michael Jackson of course............

Pete, my reason for saying that you cannot change skin is because so many people try to equivilate "race" and being GLBT. It is NOT the same - you cannot change something physical like skin color - you are born with it physically attached to you. Sexual preference is in the mind. The mind creates desires for whatever gender a person prefers - and you can change that. If it were not the case you would not have people who were previously gay or lesbian and are now heterosexual. I have no problem with people who have an "affinity" for the same sex - one of my good friends is a Lesbian - I accept who she is but I dont have to accept her lifestyle. What makes me mad is how the media makes such a big fuss if about any NEGATIVE comment concerning gay people as if people in this society are not allowed to state their opinion and what they believe. Look how big of a fuss people make just from saying that being Gay is immoral in (reference to the military man who stated his opinion)......

Dash, so because you are gay - generally speaking - you want society to make sure that we recognize you and your contributions - because you are gay??? No I dont agree with that, just like I dont agree that school books should be changed to include contributions made by gay people. We are human first and then everything else. Blacks, Mexicans, asians -whatever are recognized for their contributions because of the barriers against them based of their SKIN COLOR not SEXUAL PREFERENCE. Like I said before there is a difference between skin color and SEXUAL PREFERENCE. They do not equate! Let me put it this way - say for instance I were a lesbian and I discovered or invented something this world has never seen - how would it look to you for a history book to read "Divin4Dollars was the first Lesbian to discover this or that.." as if my sexual preference plays a role in my intellect?? I think NOT! Because I love men will not make me any more recognizable then the next person

Probably gay people would be content if others would just leave them alone.

I don't think that's true. I think they're tired of hiding it, because it has not been considered socially acceptable. Most people continue to not accept gays. People are openly gay in Montreal and San Francisco. Elsewhere, it's very difficult for them.

I think I know what you're getting at. You, and most other people, don't go parading around with a banner advertising that you're heterosexual. It's harder for the gay population, because they have been treated like trash for so long. Imagine finding the person of your dreams and you propose to that person or that person proposes to you. You'd want to announce it to the world!!! However, if you're gay, it 's a lot more difficult. You'll be teased or called some terrible slang name. You may be rejected by your friends and family. During the Holocaust, it would have cost you your life.

I know of someone who has two parents who are gay. My attitude? Great! Do you know how many children who are lucky enough to be living with both of their parents in the same household?! Many children spend their weekends bouncing from one house to another.

As long as no one is being hurt, what two adults do alone is no one's business but their own.

Not all gays are defensive about everything. I have a number of gay friends and as long as you respect their opinions on their lifestyle they will respect yours. Like I dont believe same sex couples should have children but I have respectable reason for feeling that way. Some people hate or make claims against gays for no reason at all. They have no proof or facts to back it up. Thats why I think gays may come off as defensive to you.

Like any other group of people that are persecuted, we want to be treated and recognized as a valid segment of society.

And we are. As a collective we contribute more to society than many combined. Next time you go shopping for clothes, go dancing, read a magazine, watch a movie, buy furniture, etc ... we are there.

Considering yourself, I am surprised if not shocked that you would ask this question. People often forget where they are from. I know where I am from and I respect it.

I think that as with any group of people, you have to be mindful and sensitive about your opinions. You cant go off and throw around an opinion and not think about what your saying, how your saying it especially when its within the group your opinion is about. I have many friends who are dissapproving of my lifestyle and vice versa. But honestly who are we to judge anyone? I dont care what they do in there life and why should they? Its like being in a group of black people and saying racist or ignorant things, throwing the "n" word around.. Why would you do that? If you dont like someones lifestyle, culture, ethnicity or whatever it may be, then dont be around them. point blank.

I think that gay people (who are not out of the closet, or out to themselves) are forced to constantly be mindful of what they say, think, and feel; and also of what others might be thinking of them, if they have been discovered, and if they are going to burn in hell for being gay.

So for some gay people hear others express opinions against homosexuality, it the trauma of hiding, of wathcing your every word and action, returns.Suddenly they are back in the closet.

While some gay people might be comfortable enough to just not care, others are still healing from the trauma of being in the closet. So if some gay people are jumpy or get annoyed at hearing people give the typical responses against homosexuality try to understand that they are attempting to unlearn all the hateful and demoralizing speech they have heard all their lives.

They are trying to move on with their lives and it is just difficult when you are constantly being told that your CHOICE of not remaining in the closet is wrong.

I think honestly that bigotry carries beyond skin color. You have a dark skinned Avatar, right; are you BLACK? Do you like being grouped together and stereotyped about ANYTHING.
First off, we are ALL humans. If you want to be treated equally and with respect, you must do that to others.
Do you like hearing negative things about BLACK culture, or do you simply say, we are all the same, and no differences in culture exist? Hummmmm, Do you enjoy having one set of standards for yourself and Black people, and another for others? It doesn't make for a very peaceful world when people think like that, lady.

Honestly, I think they just want to gay and still have the same rights as everyone else. I also think they would like to be gay and that everyone would just let it be that way without them having to defend themselves or be a target of some "hate" crime. And that they can be gay and they shouldn't have to worry about it the same way that straight people (such as myself) can be straight and not have to worry about being straight.

Yes, gays are defensive because all their lives they have been told that it is bad to be Homosexual. All they want is to be recognized as persons of worth. Don't we all? They do not need you to "fall down and recognize" them. They need you to stop persecuting them.
