Since a new car loses the most value in the first year, when you sell it after then is a matter of repairs and warranty. I keep my cars until there is a major repair that is more than remaining value of the car or one that indicates the car is at its limits, usually about 120,000 miles and 5 or 6 years. I buy cars used at about 40,000 miles and 2-3 years old, which is lower than average miles for the age.
