When I lived on the gulf coast I gigged April to December. That was in Alabama. I would think water temps would allow you to gig from a boat year round. We gig in a boat in N.C. in Jan. in about 15 feet of water. I usually start walking and gigging in late May here in Pamlico Sound. I do not know if it is legal to gig in Texas now. It was in the 90's. Check with the coastal fish and game. hope thiat helps. Good Luck.

definately the winter time. the early morning....2-5 AM, the morning before a Cold Front....and or on a High Tide. And Even Better if there is a slight breeze blowing in from the South. (like there normaly is just before a cold front)

November... December...January. AND NOT after a rain in the past week!! The thing about the bays...if it rains, fishing is dead for a week.

If you have a flat bottom, get away from Corpus, get out to the little islands with sand bottoms about 6-12 inches of water. They will be Everywhere!!

If you got the boots and Lantern...walk along just about any sandy bottom....but like said, NOT after a rain....and Not if the water is murky...if it's just a little Murky, there are more likey to be a dozen Stingrays to 1 small flounder.

It's sounds odd, but dip my fingers in the water and "taste" the water. The Saltier the Better....If it doesn't taste salty, there is too much fresh water and the fishing is going to suck...wait a week and come back.

If you don't have any luck with Flounder, but there is a High Tide, the Morning before a cold front, The water is nice & salty, but the water is getting too choppy for flounder you should swap and start fishing for Trout & Reds.

Trout love white lures with red tails....and Reds, seem to perfer dead shrimp or gold spoons.

Best of Luck.....Try Rock Port too...

I didn't think gigging was legal in any state except for frogs.Check the regulations in Texas before you head out.
