The invention of the tank, made trench warfare obsolete. Mustard gas was used for chemical warfare. The machine gun was just coming into it's own. The airplane was first used in combat, not just for observation.
Come to think of it, WWI was probably the most prolific war ever for inventing new ways of killing people.

From your question, it sounds like you're looking for an invention that gave an advantage to ONE country...
Machine guns were used by all countries in the conflict, so that cannot be counted.
Aircraft as well.
Gas warfare too...
The tank however was used only by the Allies in WWI. While not the 'end of Trench Warfare' in that conflict, it surely spelled the end for Trenches in general. The Germans were able to develop tank traps and so on - and the Tanks were only employed in large numbers in later battles.
They were mechanically unreliable and needed dry ground to operate properly. The early Mk I tanks were vulnerable to the Germans 'K' armor piercing bullets too.
However - The tanks made the difference in a couple of battles though their early surprise advantage was wasted.
You might also think about Submarines. The Germans were able to employ submarine warfare more effectively than any other nation (in both WWI and WWII), nearly severing England's lifeline.

WWI was the 1st modern major war. New technoligies were applied & old ones phased out. The war left Europe rebuilding for a generation. The United States emerged as a world power. Too bad Hitler wasn't killed while he was in the Army during WW1

WWI is a good example of a what war would be like where no one has an advantage. Just years and years of stalemate and slaughter. Artillery killed more people than any other weapon in that war.

the machine gun and tank. the mg provided a massive amount of fire power that could inflict far more casulties than just a bunch of guys with rifles. and tanks for the obvious reason of the armor protection and fire power
