Sure.
If they are tried as kids (family court) and found guily and the punishment
so warrants, they'll go off to a place for kids - "Juvenile detention".
A jail, though perhaps more comfortable.
If a 16 year old commits a crime which the judge determines
is adult in nature, however, the case can be tried in normal
criminal court with normal punishments.
Theoretically, a 16 year old could be given the death penalty.

Yes - Juvenile Detention Centres are for this purpose, and if the crime is sever enough they can then be moved to an adults, or young offenders jail when they reach 18....but this rarely happens, even when it is a horrible crime they've committed.
Well that's how it works in Australia anyways.

It all depends on the crime, if it is like multiple murders, then the 16 year old can be tried as an adult, if it is like a one time felony like stealing, you can go to juvey which is a childrens prison. Or they can also be put on probation. Its hard to answer since you do not state the crime, but it all depends. If its something small like running away, drinking illegally (once), theft, etc, then it's juvey. It all depends on how your attorney represents you. I hope everything works out, goodluck!

screw what these guys are saying to you, lol. depending on your past criminal history at the age of 16 they can and have throw people into jail. but the crime would have to be pretty severe.

Absolutely. However, they are placed in juvenile jails, not jails where adults are kept.
