to get there? Vista requires too much RAM (I have 256). Do I have to update with Windows Pro or go to something totally different?

Those are part of the Office suite which is completely different from the operating systems you mention. Try openoffice, it's free and will do what you want.

Well if you are a student, teacher get the educational version. If not then just download Open Office. It will do the same tasks and reads and writes compatible files. (It does fall short in some areas but isnt bad when dollars are considered.)

Otherwise just buy the home edition it does all that most people need. You should be able to find deals on Office 2000 or Office 2003 (either will work with W2000 pro.)

Here's what you have to do and it is FREE.

1.) Go to Microsoft.com and get the free trial of all the products.

2.) After you have done that, you should notice that you have a 60 day free trial.

3.) When your product is soon to run out after 58 days or so, reset your system clock about a month or two and it will read that you still have over 70 days left!

Microsoft works is the cheapest, legal, way to get that software. You can buy it at almost any store that sells computer software.
