To begin, here is a link to a website on early photo history which includes a list of notable photographers throughout the history of photography http://www.rleggat.com/photohistory/ All of photographers on this list are worthy of a report. However,I will concur with the previous post by reiterating not to do a report on Ansel Adams. Although you may be tempted to do a report on him because of the overwhelming amount of material on him, he is a subject which needs to have a rest.
If you want to write about a photographer who had a passion for the outdoors as well as a passion for nature conservation then may I suggest William Henry Jackson. Here is a photographer whose photographs of Yellowstone and other natural areas were so inspiring, the president and the congress at the time could not help but to institute a National Parks system. You can read and see some of his photos at the Library of Congress http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query

Photography wasn't really Georgia O'Keefe's real talent, and oh goodness, I know my teacher yells at kids whenever they do Ansel Adams, because honestly... it's been done.
A slightly more unknown, yet equally if not so much more talented, photographer is Annie Leibovitz. Beautiful portrait photographer, amazing artful work.
