You can tip or not tip whoever you want to. It's your money so it's your choice.

I don't get the tipping bug either. Here's a tip get a job that pays you good and does not allow tip jars. It really pisses me off how places like Subway all of a sudden have tip jars. I'm already paying $5 to have you make me a sandwich plus I have to tip.
Or the places that the jars say "our staff needs gas money." Hello people gas prices are going back up. If I give them gas money then what the heck am I suppose to do when my car runs out of gas.
I don't know if the employees are to blame or the companies for not paying their employees enough.
You're a parent do you think that it is fair to tip your kids? Instead of giving an allowance break their allowance up depending on when they do their chores i.e. if they make their bed "tip" them $.50 or $1 but don't give an allowance. Just make everything "tip based." The world is growing money hungry by the minute. It's sickening.
Thanks for letting me vent in regards to your answer.

You don't have to tip, so don't if you feel that it's not required. Oh, and as for the answer above that said, "Get a job that pays better money," are you rich? Not everyone can just go out and get the perfect high paying job. I agree with you that tipping is getting out of hand though. I used to work at a donut shop, and regular customers would sometimes leave you a buck or two but not because we had a jar for it, they just liked us. As for tipping your kids, an allowance is enough! And when they get to be 14 or so, they should do what me and my friends did--get a job!

I have no problem tipping for quality service but I don't think that I should have to tip every person who is doing a service that they are already getting paid for. I also don't appreciate being forced to tip a certain amount through the "gratuity included" places. If your server sucks it doesn't matter - you still have to tip well.
As far as my children - I have four and I don't give allowance or tip. I don't believe in paying my children to do things around the house that are expected of family members. I reward them in other ways and try to reward them monetarily when they want something nice or need money for the movies or something. I would never tip on top of allowance if I did do allowance. That's crazy. That's why this world is so selfish and lazy now. They expect everything but don't want to work for anything.

Tell your kids that you're also accepting tips now. Put a tip jar on the dinner table, the washing machine, the dash of the car etc. Then stop "providing service" to poor tippers.

Definitely would not call giving a child money as "tip". Maybe an allowance?!? You can give a child other rewards instead of money. Like a trip to the zoo at the end of the week if they do all their chores. That way the focus is off money.

I hate to have to give into the tipping war. People are sometimes nice just to get a tip. Others are genuine but still, tipping just is not fair. No one tips me. I think kids get allowances but that is enough. A tip on top of that is just ridiculous, unless a parent wanted to teach them early about the miraculous world of tipping, to prepare them. That is hilarious. I think tipping should stop and that people should be payed a fair wage. This is America and I don't understand why our country allows such poor wages in the service industry. That is so very wrong.

Hahahaha, yes it is true! Me & my brothers used to ask our parents for $$ when we did chores like dishes. But we don't anymore because we know how short money is these days. & I have a job so I don't need to ask my parents for money unless I run out of money.. but anyways!
Tips are for the people that give service to you! & it is very well appreciated by the workers that receive them. REMEMBER, you don't have to give them a tip. I do because I know how hard it is to work like them & I appreciate getting tips at my job as well. Giving tips is just showing your appreciation for the workers hard work & also remember that they're probably only getting paid minimum wage. Some people live off tips. So be cool about it & don't trip!

Tipping is a way of showing your appreciation for a service. You don not have to tip, but it is well appreciated by those who receive it. Try putting yourself in that person's shoes. If you worked in the food service industry and earned very little, you would know why tipping is a good thing.
Now, tipping your kids is ridiculous!

Tip Jars are optional. Where you should tip is restaurants, bartenders, hotel staff (maids/bellboys), valets, golf caddies, etc.
As for tipping your kids for chores.........HELLO, it's called allowance and parents have been giving it to their kids for decades
Don't get yourself in such a tizzy

Many places such as restauraunts the waiter or waitress ONLY makes the tips. It is EXTREMELY RUDE not to tip, though your kids just want more money, tell them that food shelter and their allowance are the tip for doing chores.
