If your wisdom teeth are "normal" do they take them out differently then if they are "impacted"? If they are impacted will you get put to sleep? (Or can they still take them out while you are awake?)

No, either impacted or erupted they can be removed by your dentist or an oral surgeon. Your dentist will make you as comfortable as possible with local anesthetic and N20. The oral surgeon will also anesthetize you and put you to sleep.
"Impacted" only means that the tooth is unable to erupt naturally do to it's position, laying side ways or slanted.
"Normal" would be in the correct position, but the dentist wants them removed because of the potential problem they present; difficult to keep clean, possible decay, crowding or just not enough room, these are all good examples of why they need extracting.

Normal wisdom teeth are just like other teeth they have a normal root etc, impacted wisdom teeth are usually grown into the jaw or have roots that are going in different directions. Normally with impactions they either put you under or give you a sedative.

Impacted means that they are growing sideways... the top of the tooth is facing your lips. Depending on how impacted they are will determine if they need to put you out or not.
