There is a group called CCG (I only know that the first C stands for College and the last G stands for Group) who says that if we pay them $1,200, they will help me get $60,000 in scholarships and free money to pay for college. It seem great, but when I say it, it sounds like a scam. My grandparents won't give me the information about it (like it's whole name) so I can look it up with Better Business Bureau. I'm afraid it could be a scam, and that they're lying, and normally, if it's too good to be true, it is, but I need this. I need you help if any of this sounds familiar.

Their motto is "Start school the right way." and they said they work out of the IRA building in New York.

Please help!

Trust me, this is a scam. Legitimate organizations that offer financial aid/scholarships/grants do so for free. If this is a company that offers services in locating you grants and scholarships they are offering you a service you can do yourself without the $1,200 price tag.

No, you do not have to pay to find money for college. There are pleanty of free resources both in your community and on the web to tap into the scholarship search realm. I will list some fantastic free resources and places to locate money to attend college.

First, fill out the FAFSA form because it will tap into need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself. It is based on the family income and savings. The form for the fall semester or quarter becomes available on January 1.

Second, current high school students can locate local scholarships at the high school guidance office.

third, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

fourth, your high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships for current high school students.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

One thing they taught me before graduating high school, was to NEVER trust any thing/site/person that required you to pay to receive scholarships.
