i know they claim they don't want their tax dollars being used to put up a cross somewhere, but why do i have no choice in having my tax dollars being used to teach the guess of evolution in schools when i don't believe in it? Isn't it extremely arrogant of atheists to think their beliefs demand funding while mine don't? I just want to live in a world where atheists no longer push their beliefs on me and force me to support their fledgling religion.

They are very self-imposing on others around them, and they use the one and only tool in their toolbox....the idea of Separation of Church and State.

Christian here ... and I have never heard of an Atheist fighting to abolish Christmas!! I think some take the stance that public places -- such as courthouses or the post office -- shouldn't promote one religion over all others, or the lack of one. For example, Jews celebrate Hanukkah around the time that we celebrate Christmas. So if a government place of business puts up a nativity scene, they should have to display a menorah also. I don't really know what it is, but I also know that Kwanzaa is celebrated in December. Do you see what I mean? Its not about taking anything away from Christians, its about the government not supporting one particular point of view. And do you really want your tax dollars spent on prettying up the local magistrate's office with decorations for 3 or 4 major holidays, all at once? I certainly don't. In private businesses and in our homes, we're still more than welcome to display anything we choose.

Also, your tax dollars go for the education of all children in your state. Science classes teach scientifically accepted theories. Just because someone happens to believe that a verb is not a descriptive word doesn't mean we should ban that from being taught in English class. All you're doing is depriving kids from learning the material that is accepted by the scientific community. Its two completely different things.

Christmas is a part of the USA, and has been from the beginning. Christians and Atheists need to leave each other alone. Respect each other and mind their own business. Our tax dollars should be used for needy projects and our Government needs to make the Christians and the Atheists pay for their own, beliefs. Let them support their own ideas, Good grief, leave each other alone. The word is Peace !!

Cross = religion = big no-no when it comes to gov't spending.

Evolution = science = what we spend money on. You can not believe in the holocaust all you want too, but it doesn't mean it didn't happen or your kids don't have to ever hear about it.

Science has evidence. Therefore, it requires no belief - you can test it yourself.

For everyone else - the War on Christmas is pretty much being carried out single-handedly by Tom Flynn, the editor of Skeptical Inquirer. Personally, I don't see the need to get rid of that month off I get every year. I just don't want to see crosses everywhere I look, or have my tax dollars spent on nativity scences.

true but they like you are protected by freedom of religion
and freedom of speech as are all americans and knowledge of the constitution and the legal system. for example the atheists are and have trying to remove "One Nation Under
God" from the pledge of allegiance the big arguement about this is that public schools are violating there constitutional right by having there children recite it before class so some states have declared that the verse "In God We Trust "be removed from the pledge as violates these indiviuals rights
and crosses the "church and state" amendment. as far as
christmas is concerned these indivuals are exerciseing there constitutional right and some are succeding while the lot of us who obviously do not agree are sitting on our hands.
petion your congressmen or woman in your state thats what "they" are doing . Vote!!! be heard cause honestly sitting around and complaining about will not take of it

I like Christmas.

But it just isn't fair to use tax money to promote religion.

Evolution is science and not a religion. It isn't even close. It is impossible to teach biology without understanding the entire base of the entire branch of study. There is NO debate in scientific circles about evolution at all. If you think you have a theory that deserves consideration, then submit it for publication in one of the hundreds of peer reviewed scientific journals.

Science is a matter of evidence, not belief. If you want you kids to be uneducated like the idiots that ask the "monkey" questions here, that is just cruel. But I have no problem with you taking them out of that class.

I don't know any Atheists who want to abolish Christmas.

Evolution has eons of proof supporting it. Creationists are too religious or ignorant to pay attention to or read the proof. Creation isn't taught in schools because it's a religion, not a science. Science can be observed, studied, and have conclusions made. Evolution can. Creation can't.

Atheists don't push their beliefs on people. Christians who fight to have homosexual rights taken away, who fight to illegalize abortion and birth control, who fight to make the Bible law and taught in public, are the ones pushing their beliefs on people.

Atheism is not a religion. It is one single belief.

you said it yourself. the reason your beliefs aren't funded is because they are beliefs. the reason evolution IS funded is because it is fact.

But just try to badmouth Ramadan or someone else's holy days and see what happens. You'll be attacked on all sides by the politically correct crowd.

Christmas and Resurrection Sunday are Christians' two main holy days. If everybody else can celebrate their holy days without continually being hassled, then we should have the same freedom as a Muslim, Jew, or any other religion.

Pick a topic and stick to it next time.

Who says we complain about Christmas? Most of us that come from families that have always done it do celebrate it...just a nonreligious variation.

Science and science education is not belief...

And what do you mean by "fledgling religion"? It's the lack of religion and it's been around forever...or do you not get that concept?

You have the funniest question ive ever read. You know that if you erased the word Atheists and put in the word christians, your question would sound correct, like this:

Isn't it extremely arrogant of CHRISTIANS to think their beliefs demand funding while mine don't? I just want to live in a world where CHRISTIANS no longer push their beliefs on me and force me to support their fledgling religion.

Sounds better doesnt it............
