I am pulling a 5 x 8 foot trailer from MI to FL with my Honda Accord V6. I would like to know what the safestest top speed would be to travel at. Please be honest as I don't want to cause an accident!

California posts a 55 mile per hour limit on vehicles pulling trailers.....BIG Trucks, cars pulling trailers etc. are included......U-Haul has 45 mph written on alot of their equipment....but 55 is ok. Good luck and be safe.

Keep in mind, on turns and on hills, the trailer will be pushing you. If the trailer will be loaded with moving stuff, you could easily and quickly get heavy and almost be matching the car's weight.

Aerodynamics will also play a part in max speed. If your trailer starts to sway, you will need to slow so the trailer stabilizes.

I would not exceed the speed limit at any point and do not set your cruise control as you may get unexpected acceleration

The accord is not meant to tow.....the suspension is more for comfort not trailer stability.

Drive safely

It depends on the weight, weight distribution and braking ability. You need to load the trailer where you have 15% of the weight on the hitch of the car. Make sure it does not overload the towing capacity of your car. You can find this in the owner's manual. Also the ability to slow down and stop is very important. Allow at least twice the braking distance and scan the roadway ahead to anticipate problems. If you do all this, you can safely drive the speed limit. Good luck and have a safe trip :)

If you can maintain the posted speed limit and amaintain control then that is what you should do. If this is a rented trailer, they often have a decal on the fender that says "maximum speed 55MPH" his means if you go faster, you are responsible for wht ever happens, not the rental company or their insurance.

Only travel at a speed that you feel safe. In Cali. the limit while on hiway is 55mph. Just be careful you are towing with a relitively light vehical. Travel slower on long down hills. It will take longer to stop so drive accordingly.

unless the laws in the states u are pulling it thru dont state otherwise u can pull at the speed limit although its probably safer to go a bit slower. as long as there is no swaying youll be ok. youll cause less accidents if you are traveling at the legal limit. thats what id be doing and have done so many times. have a good trip.

Depending on the conditions and what your hauling on the trailer is going to dictate how fast you should drive. If your not comfortable driving at freeway speeds don't, drive at a speed you feel comfortable driving at, drive in the slow lane, and let people pass you. Drive carefully, and have a good trip.

You don't say what wheel size the trailer has and whether they've been balanced and how much you're hauling. I would stick to the speed limit and no more.

Try this...the posted speed limit, adjusted of course, for weather and road conditions.
