You won't get processed until you get to Basic. Have you gone to MEPS? I doubt it. I think you consented to the background checks and stuff that they do. If you're unsure, go back and talk to them. I don't think you enlisted because you take an oath and sign a whole bunch of contracts. It's a pretty big deal. You're fine. I'm pretty sure of that.

The papers you signed were just an Intent to Enlist. It basically says that you intend to enlist in a specific branch, that way other branches recruiters can't talk to you anymore. You're not obligated to service until you sign your contract at MEPS and take the oath.

I'm not sure...but if you talked to a recruiter you obviously aren't doing anything worth while right now...go find out what the military can offer you and then make your decision before you raise your right hand...

I joined the Army after I received a BA and had tons of student loans, I spent five years active and it was the best thing I ever did and I would do it again in a heart beat!

No, you're not obligated until you take the Oath of Office. When you raise your right hand and take the oath just before shipping out, they own you.

You can still, however, get out in the first six months. Not everyone is capable of making the adjustment to military life, so if you b itch, whine, and/or screw up enough, they kick you out for 'failure to adapt'. That's kind of a hard way out, though, because they will dog you night and day to get you to conform.

EDIT: It doesn't matter if you've taken the oath in the recruiter's office. That one is just a psycological trick they use to keep you from backing out. The one at the MEPS Center is the only one that counts.

well heres the thing you are not obligated because you have not completely sworn in at the processing station but you should have thought it about it a little more before signing papers because once you join the military you are obligated to finish your term of service. good luck

I don't know, I signed the papers and did 7 years in the Marine Corps. Why don't you talk to your recruiter? And why change your mind now?

Yes, untill you have taken your oath, and singed a contract with MEPS are NOT obligated to anything.

However, that does not mean that your recruiter is gonna be fond of you, and will prolly call you french or a sissy...

It all depends upon what you signed.

If they have you set up to be processed, you probably signed a contract.

Good luck telling a recruiter you changed your mind!

No, Relax. You are not obligated until you ship. There has been no quid pro quo. That is Latin for "something for something". That is the legal requirement for a binding contract. I do believe that you owe your recruiter a phone call, and a explanation. He will have to explain to his station commander why you did not process. It is really a tough gig recruiting. I know, I did it. Call him/her a.s.a.p. .

Ask your recruiter. If he says you're obligated - then ask a lawyer.
