button pins on navy dress blues?

How do I remove the clevis pins which secure the left-side buttons on a Navy Dress Blues jacket? They're not sewn in- instead they are held by clevis pins inside the lining. I've unocovered the pins but can't remove them without breaking- thanks for the help!

You don't actually separate the clevis pin from the button.

Pull on the thin end of the clevis pin, so that the fatter end is around the eye of the button. You should then be able to pull button and pin through the hole the button passes through.
