Is it possible she meant Kovno? Kovno was a major Jewish settlement that was destroyed by the Nazis during World War II.

Anyway, as to the where -- Kovno is today known as Kaunas.
It is located in southwestern Lithuania, which is north and west of the Russian Federation.

It's located in Russia...man...your grandma was born in 1902 and is still alive?My great-grandma was born in 1914 and diead last year. Of course she lived in that cold Siberia...
