The couple of days after any apointment always hurt (the first one especially) it will die down in a few days and become merely annoying. Until then, eat soft foods.

Theres nothing you can do really, i just got mine tightened today as well. Your orthodontist should have given you a little case of wax. If the braces continually rub against your gums, or if you just don't like the feel of the brackets, break off a piece and firmly push it over the brace. If the orthodontist didn't give you one, you can buy it at a drug store for around two bucks, and it lasts a long time.

Stick with soft foods and liquids for a few days. One thing that might help would be to rinse your gums with warm salty water; doesn't taste great, but it does help a little bit. The pain will usually go away in a day or so - not a lot of comfort now, but at least you know it won't just keep on going!

Chloraseptic spray. Relax the tightness feeling will eventually subside. I also had braces. One major problem I had was grinding my teeth of the night time due to the pain. You can also rinse your mouth with salt water.

before you go to get them tightened take a motrin 30 minutes prior. Thats it they will still hurt but just take a motrin according to the instructions and it will help a little bit.

maybe gargle salt or something? use that wax they give you? anyways, you WILL end up with scars...and it will hurt your lips/tounge at the start. hand in there, you'll get use to it...
