I went to 8minute dates and they liked me until I said I was running my own house painting business. Then they lost interest in me as though I was blue collar and poor. Is that normal? Or just my imagination?
(I do have a B.S. in engineering but I dont like the profession.)

a lot of girls are attracted to men with money, but those types of girls are shallow, and not the type of girl you'd want to be with anyway right? They call them gold diggers. I had a chance to marry a rich man who promised me a honeymoon in Paris, all the kids I wanted, the kids would have the best schools, music lessons, etc. While we were together he took me to the Bahamas, bought me diamonds, and furniture, and took me to all the best restaurants. When he proposed I told him no, because I didn't love him. I couldn't marry for money. We broke up, and now I am with the love of my life. He's poor, but we are happy! So not every woman is a gold digger. Hang in there!

Depends on the woman. If she is as well-educated as you are, she may be OK with your profession, but could be worried about what "others" will think. Racial prejudice is often talked about, but there is A LOT of class prejudice out there!! You hit the nail in the head when you said "blue-collar". Yes, I do know a lot of women who would rule out a guy if she identified him that way.
But then again, you probably don't want women like that anyway!
