We find that in today's society, that religion is a key player in wars. What if there wasn't religion; how would the world react, function, and truly be?

Yes, but not warfare like we know it. Before there werew religions, groups of people had conflicts that resulted in tribal warfare. The difference was that their goal was not to annihilate the other group and force its belief systems upon them. There were rules of combat that did not involve the killing of women and children, the raping thereof, and the widespread displacement of gropus of people. The goal of these "wars" was to settle a disagreement with as little killing as possible. They respected life even in such cases. The same cannot be said of today's warfare. There is no respect for life or property. There is only the respect for the outcome and an overwhelming belief that the victor is right.

Funny, you say that in today's society religion is the key player in wars, I had assumed listening to others state the key was oil. When did Oil become a religion (I'm sure that some people probably do worship oil, but I don't know anyone who does)? Second if you actually took the time to read up on history you would have learned that most wars in our history are a result of land, money and power, not religion. So we would still have wars, people would still die, be taken advantage of, and generally not much would have changed.

There would definitely be a lot less of it.

I don’t understand all you people who clam the USSR and all other communist states are atheist. You ever hear of the Russian Orthodox Church? That church didn’t disappear after the revolution and suddenly reappear after the fall of the communist government. So please explain why the Russians would be atheist?

As far as china goes:

The 1978 Constitution of the People's Republic of China guarantees "freedom of religion" with a number of restrictions. In practice, the Communist Party of China will react harshly against groups such as Falun Gong which it perceives as challenging its authority while in general ignoring groups that are not seen as challenging the state. Since the mid-1990s there has been a massive program to rebuild Buddhist temples that were destroyed in the Cultural Revolution.

So again why does “Communism always equal atheist”

Many wars have been fought over religion, many have not. The American revolution had nothing to do with religion.
The Civil war had nothin to do with religion.
The war of 812 had nothing to do with religion.
The French revolution had nothing to do with religion.
Same for the 100 year war
The 1066 war of the Normans
The war of the Roses.
Come on !!! I'm getting tired.

There would still be wars if there was no religion on earth because of the sinful nature of man.

Hitlers and Stalins will always pop up during the course of human history and cause wars with no religious motivation whatsoever. So even if religion was eradicated from the face of the earth, there would still be wars.

I doubt if the absence of religion would prevent war because people would still organize around belief systems to form cultures, and that often leads to seeing other groups as potential enemies. A belief system doesn't have to be a religion, at least not in the sense of having a deity or other supernatural aspects. I don't think war is inevitable, though, as we do have the ability to settle differences in other ways.

Religion has been a factor in war in prior societies.

But God hates war and soon He will send His Son to end man's war forever.

Psa 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Id like to think that the world would be as John Lennon sang in "Imagine".But the reality is that Earth's resources are limited, there will always be dictators and people who want power, wealth, and control of the masses, and there will always be governments who believe "might makes right". So yes, there will be wars even if religion did not exist.

Anger ,hatred, jealousy , greed , power hunger, narrow mindedness are the real reasons of wars . Man just uses religion to express these negative and destructive emotions. It is MAN (human beings) that needs to change not anything else.
Everyone needs to practice Yoga or some form of discipline that will lead us towards higher and spiritual goals. Human beings need to evolve and get over their animal instinct of fighting to get what they want.
So relax, take a deep breath and feel the love in this Universe.

War is necessary to achieve a perfect world. The people against war must be the ones that benefit from suffering.
