yes egyptians

These animals were considered especially sacred:
cat- The male cat had religious connections with Ra. Kittens were specifically reared for sacrificial/worship uses (see link below).
cattle- Beef was often used as a sacrificial offering to various deities.
scarab beetle- The emblem of a specific goddess, the scarab beetle was associated with the daily birth of the sun, and credited with spontaneous generation of its young. Because of its sacred status, it was widely represented in art.

Other animals with religious significance include:
ibises, baboons, rams, dogs, shrews, mongooses
snakes, fishes, beetles, gazelles, and lions

Hope this helps your report get a better mark! lol

I totally agree with mzbryana. A very interesting and cool question , and a wonderful change :-)

I also agree with juz-random-mi . While searching for an answer, I found that people who believe in the Shinto " respect animals as messengers of the Gods. so that might qualify, too. A pair of statues of "Koma-inu" (guard dogs) face each other within the temple grounds." (link added.)

I'm also adding another link about dogs and religious that may help you. Surprisingly, it mentions that in China that the dog plays its greatest role in religion, folklore, and mythology.

Lastly, I found an interesting article about the remains of more than 40 mummified dogs being were found in Peru. The dogs were buried with blankets and food alongside their human masters.

The discovery was made during the excavation of two of the ancient Chiribaya people who lived in southern Peru between AD 900 and AD 1350.

Experts say the dogs' treatment in death indicated the belief that the animals had an afterlife.

Such a status for pets has only previously been seen in ancient Egypts. Unfortunately, it doesn't mention a particular religion, but I still found the article interesting, so I'm not sure if it will help you.

Good luck with your project, and I'm giving you a star, too.
