to loose weight. im on average taking in 1200-1500 calories right now. do i have to burn more than that off in a day?

yep. the calories you dont burn in a day get turned into fat for later usage. If you use more calories than you put into your body, then your body has to turn to its fat reserves to fuel your energy needs, therefore you lose fat.

Yes it's true; even so, it's impossible to tell if 1200-1500 is an accurate number for you, because I don't know your physical attributes (height, weight, age, metabolism). Here is a link to compute how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, lose weight, or gain weight.

Of course you have to use up more calories than you take in, if you want to lose weight. Simple mathematics.

If you want to maintain your weight, you eat about as many as you burn, gain weight, eat more than burn, lose weight, eat less.
