Rottweiler 100%. They are more mentally stable. If you want a dog that would utterly humiliate both of them in a strength test, go with a Tosa Inu/tosa ken...its a japanese dog, and it makes either of these look like poodles!

I'm sorry but a Rotty is just as likely to bite someone as a Pit or even a Poodle. It is all how on the dog is raised and treated. To say which dog is stronger I would go with a Pit b/c they are breed for their muscles. But the breed of dog doesn't neccessarily mean that it will be the best guard dog. I would research this very closely and look at more than just 2 types of dogs.

I would have to say that a rottweiler is a better guard dog and stronger. Pitbulls have more of a tendency to snap just out of the blue and attack its owner. I've heard horror stories about rottweilers as well though. A St Bernard makes a good guard dog too and is pretty stong .

I would say that a Pit Bull would be the best although they have a bad rep not all pits are aggressive, its the way that you raise them. And then despite the bad image pit bulls make great family pets as well as guard dogs. Pits actually like to be hugged!!!!

I have 2 Rottys myself right now--but I do not have them because they are a good guard dog. Their loyalty to me, and my loyalty to them is what makes all the difference. I had a border collie once that went at a german shepherd, out of loyalty. I have concerns about pit bulls--have heard horrible stories. But I have also met chiwawas that will guard. I would personally pick a rotty, but then I am also very protective of my dogs--so again--it is up to the owner to treat them properly.

pitbull is probably stronger in terms of bite strength and Rottweiler for overall strength but I think there's another dog that a better guard dog then both of them -- the Italian Mafia uses them -- I think they're called Neapolitan Mastiffs or something like that -- will look on-line for info -- http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/neapolitanmastiff.htm

I don't know where you all are getting you information but PITS are NOT GOOD GUARD DOGS!!! The only way that they become good guard dogs is to be mistreated. They are although pound for pound the strongest. I have two PB's and a doberman, one of my PB's is also deaf. I have never seen any ANY agression towards humans, other animals, or even the mailman. They are dogs that strive for human acceptance and love and it is a fallacy that they are viscious in nature. People are viscious and they teach their dogs to be the same.

Neither!
There are many cities that are enforcing breed specific laws. Dogs whether large or small will guard there owners even with out training. Just out of loyalty and devotion, provided the dog lives IN the home and not tied outside on a chain.
Check your city for laws and breed specific laws before getting a breed that you may not be qualified or respondsible enough to own.

Pitbulls are extremely powerful....they have endurence which cannot be topped....i caution you though...if you do not have the time to train a powerful breed and give it the proper exercise you need to find a different breed
