I've been looking at a few 97-99 mitsubishi eclipse GSX and I found one that has 93,000 miles on the body and 3000 on a brand new engine. the guy is asking $10k, I'm gonna try to talk it down to $8k. I just wanna know if there's anything I should be worried from especially with the new engine. the guy said that he put the wrong blow off valve into the old engine and it blew up, thats why he replaced the engine.
Thanks

Ask him who put this motor in, if by a mechanic, ask to see the receipt for labor/parts. If it's a certified motor, it will have a stamp on it from the maker, otherwise, it may have come out of a heap down the road. Also, is it gonna pass emission testing, ask to see the proof that it did. Oftentimes, catalytic convertors break down and are extremely expensive to fix on some models, so it's worth asking to see the test result. Also, ask to see the current title, never buy without seeing that title, it has a wealth of info that you need to know, cuz even if you ask, some people will lie(no really?)Like whether it has been rebuilt or not, it will say on the title, if it says salvage title, run from the deal unless you want to spend a whole lotta money. Good luck.

my immediate concern is WHO installed the engine, was it a reputable shop, and where did the engine come from. after you've asked these questions and your still interested, make you best offer based on the proviso that it passes a safety inspection. The safety inspection will cost you around $90 but they have a real good look at it and could find mor reasons why you shouldn't buy it, if they do, it's a very well spent $90

Ask for proof of purchase of the new motor IE reciept. You should make shure it is the low compression 4g63t motor, not a chrystler. The transmission is a common problem on these cars. For the best reliability, make sure you use the stock BOV. Its Turbo AWD nice car.

Toyota Matrix (same as Vibe) Geo Prizm Toyota Corolla (same as Prizm) Saturn S sequence (super autos) Honda Civic

DO NOT fall in love for the car You GONNA buy.
check it (cold blood check)
buy the pricing book ,ask for the lowest price (minus 10 %)
complain of this and that ,the seller will get mad and ask You to leave, give Your telephone to the seller, let him call You later.
