Supply and Demand.
Employers are suppose to pay minimal wage. Well, illegals come in and do it for even less. Goes for higher wage jobs, too. Therefore there is no pressure to increase wages in order to get people to apply for the job. They can get an illegal to do it, then the business will take all that unspent wage money and put into their own bank account.
Many of the illegal's don't understand how hard our people have fought for better wages, better working conditions and better treatment.

It doesn't effect what the minimum wage is, but it does lower the pay for those who have gotten above that by having too many people willing to do the job for less. People become disposable when there's too large a pool of cheap workers to dip into. I don't think people would mind working for less if you could live on it ,but our prices are going up on everything that are basic necessities not to mention increased taxes in one way or another and you can't survive on that.......let alone afford insurance, save money or try and plan for retirement or put money away for an education.
What the government says is poverty and what real poverty is, isn't close for this society. There's limited affordable housing and alot aren't fit for human habitation. They have no means to control how energy effecient any of the gas and electric appliances are or how secure a building is as far as energy effeciency goes. There are alot of slum lords in this country taking full advantage of the people who can least afford it. Our society basicly has standards but doesn't pay people enough to meet them.
There's limits on help and unless you've had to do it.....it's a full time job in and of itself. Ya, there's legal aid if you can take a day or more off work and wait in endless lines to see if you qualify.
Minimum wage was supposed to be pocket money for teens getting their feet wet. Now families are trying to survive on it because education, experience, etc, doesn't equal more pay like it used to. Do real good and go up the wage scale and you work your way out of a job when they can get someone else for cheaper or your jobs outsourced or the company moves to another country.

Illegal aliens come into these United States. The illegal aliens will work for almost nothing, and you don't need to pay taxes or health care or L and I on the illegal aliens. This is very attractive for employers who want to cut costs any way they can. The minimum wage goes down because citizens will take any work they can get so they can have a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Actually the fears of driving down wages are greater than the reality. some employers do take advantage of the status. however, many, many employers are paying undocumented workers the same wages as US workers. Why? because most employers don't even know the workers are undocumented, for instance the employer is presented with a green card that looks real, that's all that is required. so they may think someone is legal when they are not. it is also driven by the demand for workers. if they are hard to get, empployers will pay more

Illegal immigration drives down wages. Period. Not in theory, but for real. Otherwise, why would companies like Swift be so eager to hire them? Because they have no leverage and will take what they get, that's why.

The agricultural market is by far one of the only made in the USA things that we have to claim. Everything we have here reads : made in china , made in Brazil , made in Korea etc. because it costs cheaper to make things in those countries and by making things there the businessman makes a buck and we get to buy it for cheaper. But that only stimulates foreign economy. If American farmers didn't pay these people what they pay them (sadly) they would go out of business because the demand for their good at a high price would drop tremendously. Keep in mind when an illegal works they make money which they use to buy things in AMERICA to stimulate AMERICAN economy .

There have been many, many studies to show that it doesn't. Try researching Florida after the mass wave of Cuban immigration. The wages were not shown to have dropped considerably.

ILLEGAL alien criminals affect wages and they keep them low. If anyone is upset about low wages, blame the ILLEGAL alien criminals.
