Well I've had pomeranians, chihuahuas, and I just got a cocker spaniel. I would say go w/ whatever u want but cocker spaniels are great! My little one is so cute and sweet. Cocker spaniels are usually laid back, easy going, easy to train, and very loyal. If you are looking for any of those characteristics I'd definetely recommend the cocker spaniel. But you should also anticipate grooming. So far, grooming for my cocker spaniel has not been to hard. I usually give her a bath every weekend, I swab her ears every weekend after her bath (this is something u must do or else their ears will begin to smell), and I trim her fur around her back end about every 2 weeks. It sounds like alot but it's easy and I wouldn't trade her for the world!

get a dachshund. i went through a couple different breeds and dachshunds are the best. they are not yippers or nippers. they are not hyper. they have little body odor. they love to sit and cuddle. they do hilarious things. i started out with just one but quickly realized that like chips you cant have just one. now i have 5 and they hardly ever bark. they are great with my kids and other animals. do not get a chihuahua they can be nippy and skittish. papillions require allot of maintenance as do cockers although cocker spaniels are so adorable and sweet. papillions can also be yippy and nippy. my neighbor had one she said they are to much work. if you get a doxie join my group on yahoo groups Kays Dachshund Place. i have had alot of experience with all of these dogs. dachshunds are not yippers or nippers at all. i have two very young children and they are a little ruff with my dogs at times and my doxies have never shown any aggression at all. also i had 2 litters of puppies and both moms have been so friendly through the whole thing. they allow my kids to hold the puppies and pet them. i have never seen another breed be so accepting after having a litter of pups. i have been around breeding for a very long time and now am a breeder(responsible!!) myself. i love these dogs so much i had to share them with others. i have lit up so many faces of the kids and families i have sold to. i hope you can find a doxie to light up your days!!

I would have to say out of the choices given go with the cocker spaniel. My fave small dog is a beagle, but cocker spaniels are precious too.

I know someone who had a chihuahua and now its very aggressive! Also, my sister got bit by a papillion and had to have a lot of treatment! Unless you are getting a personal dog trainer, I would reccomend the daschund or cocker spaniel!

The Cocker Spaniel has a better personality and temperament with children and other animals than any other breed you have considered. Remember that they need a lot of patience, grooming and come with a lot of health problems so make sure to a) research the breed and b) to buy from a reputable breeder who screens their dogs of hereditary diseases.

Cocker Spaniel. They are really sweet, but a bit sturdier than a papillon and not prone to back problems like dachshunds.

spaniels are very nice. and chihuahuas are cute but tend to be kinda mean and snappy. daschunds can be a little snappy, but aren't always, are cute, but they have a lot of health problems. i dont know much about papillons. id personally get i spaniel, tho i dont like the traditional cocker cut. Actually, id personnally get a medium sized mixed breed from the pound, cheaper, much healthier, better attitudes, plus, u'd be saving a life.

It really depends on how much you're willing to spend, what personality you're looking for and the trainability of the dog. I would suggest that you research each dog and make a list of the traits you want in a dog - Spaniels are energetic and can be a challenge to keep occupied while Chihuahuas can be somewhat aggressive.
