Question 16- Interlinears and Bibles

Mr.S.,

Sorry to bother you again but I'm alittle confused. I read the list you sent me and I'm wondering why would I need more than one Interlinear greek bible or lexicon? Also, if there was a conflict with another version how would I know which is correct?

Thanks again! I appreciate your help so much.

Ann

R. Sungenis: You would need more than one to compare one against the other. Sometimes the translation is different because the Greek grammar is interpreted differently. You may not be able to know which one is correct in every case, but at least you'll know there is a question about the passage, and reserve your opinion accordingly. It's the same with English Bibles. Get as many as you can so that you can see the nuances one translator may pull out that another misses.

Question 10- Which Greek New Testament Should I Use?

Hi Mr. Sungenis,

I am going to buy a Greek New Testament. Is there any one in particular you would recommend? Thanks,

Damien

R. Sungenis: Get the 27th edition of the Greek New Testament by Kurt Aland and Bruce Metzger.

Also, get yourself a Greek Interlinear. Anyone will do.

R. Sungenis

Yes,
The Basics of New Testament Syntax by Daniel Wallace (This is an intermediate Greek grammar, so do the Machen first)

New Testament Greek for Beginners by Daniel Machen second edition Pearson, Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. (Machen is the one I learned Koine Greek from, and it is a very good system, and I am a grad student studying New Testament Greek)

Several...

I'll assume from your question that you are looking for elementary level information. Zondervan has one in electronic format as part of the "Pradis" family of products:

Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar, William D. Mounce, 1993.

This is a good source for the beginner with a much more user-friendly design than Machen.

I also used a book titled "New Testament Greek Notebook," a loose-leaf published by Baker. It has lots of things which make the initial learning and memorizations go easily.

"Teach Yourself" New Testament Greek is a good start.
