A good 3+4 or 2+3 pack is going to give you the tightest profile. Fronts usually don't go through too many pods so you don't want a huge pack.

Many people like the collapsible packs like the Empire one here http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=kB8EooO62G8EiMZADCrEColuGAusaoNkfw0=?ProductID=ykXAqArbOWIAAAEH1N0PTA_A I find that they tend to lose pods if you are diving/sliding or generally hitting bunkers hard. When in the snake they can be tall on the back as well. They are extremely easy to pull from though so this makes them one of the fastest out there (no tabs to deal with).

The vertical stack pack are some of the best out there for front players. Redz pack shown here http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=kB8EooO62G8EiMZADCrEColuGAusaoNkfw0=?ProductID=gjysFAY75K8AAAD3nHGlA_2y The reason they are the best is that they stay tight to the back of the player, they are universal draw (you can pull from either side), and the vertical stack means you don't have to worry about a pod popping open. If you spend any time in the snake, these types of packs are going to be your best bet.

Getting a pack is a bit more of personal preference than anything else. Some have extra back support built in, some have comfort pads, some are just a nylon belt with loops. Depending on how you play and the comfort you are looking for from a pack will determine what you get. Personally I've played with a variety of packs that I've borrowed from friends, but the one I purchased was a 3A 5+4 on Ebay for less than $5. I couldn't see spending huge amounts of money on something that holds pods.... but I'm not a professional tournament player either.

Pod carriers usually run from 20 bucks up to 70 depending on the manufacturer and where you buy it. Action village usually has some good deals. As far as how many pods a front player should have, I think at least 3 but no more than 5. Front players don't usually use that much paint compared to a back or mid player.

NxE, Dye, Empire, Redz, and some other brands are good brands to look at. Picking a harness is like picking out a shirt or goggles. It's different for everyone, so I suggest buying from a store so you can actually try it out. Some harnesses might be god to others but bad to others. Find a local store near you and go try out their harness and see how it feels. Companies make their own special belts and everything so you have to do some testing. For a front player, find one with at least 4 pods because you will shoot a lot of paint.
