A portrait studio is fine (not corny) no matter which store you have it done at (Sears or Walmart or any other), they are better for those who like the more formal sitting, however if you want informal or candid shots I suggest going with your wedding photographer. This serves 2 purposes: one is that you get a photo (many times) outside of a studio setting, so you can get those informal or candid shots. The second purpose is that you get a "test run" with your photographer to know their style, quality, etc firsthand instead of just from a "portfolio" since we all know that no photographer is going to put "bad shots" into their portfolios.

If youre good at negotiating you can probably talk your photographer into giving you this for FREE as part of your wedding package.

A lot of people go to a department store studio to get their engagement pictures done. In fact, my fiancee and I went to JCPenney this past week. The pictures turned out nice (our package was about $175) but they were very busy and I wish we'd been able to take more poses. However, we both realize that these pictures will not be the only ones we'll ever have. We're getting married after all! There will be plenty of time for pictures.

Walmart is an excellent idea for engagement photos. Weddings are expensive enough. Why not take it easy on the engagement pictures when you have years ahead of you (not to mention the wedding) to get your pictures snapped?

Besides, I've seen some portraits from Walmart and they were wonderful.

And 20 years from now this photo will be in a box in the attic and you will never look at it.

No, I don't think Walmart sounds corny. A picture is a picture, and god knows that weddings are already expensive enough.

If you can save yourself a few dollars, more power to you. Take the money you save, put it in the bank, and look at the interest you have accrued over 20 years. I bet you check the bank account balance more often than you will look at your engagement photos.

Walmart is a good idea especially if you wear something basic like khakis and white shirts with a black background. Or you can speak to a few photographers and check prices . Some maybe more reasonable than Walmart, if you have an idea of what type of pictures you are looking for. Maybe even look at their books and get some ideas for if you do decide to go to walmart.
Just make sure you make it special where ever you choose.

I am not exactly sure why you need to have it done at anyplace like Walmart. Is it possible that you can have a friend go out with you two and snap a ton of pictures with a digital camera? I am sure that some will look great, and with the resolution of digital cameras, they should look great no matter what size you make them.

Absolutely....you should go to a studio and invest the money on some quality photos. Or better yet, have them taken on the beach somewhere.

Walmart is fine! Its just a picture and no one knows where you got it done if you dont tell them. My wife and I had ours done at Target...big deal. Its not like it says people see it and go " is that a target picture?" Get the picture wherever you can afford it!!
