I expect you forgot to put the '=' sign in front of the equation in one of the cells.

Use 'help' to discover how to highlight the Cell with incorrect data

Sounds to me like the cell you are referencing contains letters and not numbers.

Also, the cell you are referencing, if it has a calculation in it, and the result happens to be N/A, you could see the error message you are getting!

Ensure the calculation in the referenced cell is correct, and ensure the cell format is correct, ie. the result is displayed as a number and not general, or time, date, currency and so on.

Tip: If a cell contains a calculation that requires 2 cells or 2 values to be added, before the data is added into the 2 cells, your answer cell would display 0 or sometimes N/A.

If you want the cell to remain empty until the data has been entered, use this example:

Instead of an calculation such as this:

=SUM(A1+A2)

(If either of these cells, A1 or A2 has no value in it, you would get 0)

So instead, use this:

=IF(A1+A2=0," ",A1+A2)

Basically, what this does is this: If A1 + A2 = 0, so in other words, if either A1 or A2 are empty and the result will equal 0, instead put " ". Which leaves the cell empty.

Don't know if this helps, just try it and play around!!!
