does anyone know where the MLP switch on a Ford F350 is; and would this make the truck shift hard and put the engine light on? Husband is a heavy equipment mechanic, but he is stumped on this problem (his truck).

Another name for MLP switch is Transmission Range Sensor and it will definately cause a hard shift and will turn the engine lite on. You should get it scanned to verify that it is the problem. It is located on the side of the transmission( drivers side) where the shift linkage is attached. Good luck.

Need the model year. Recent Ford trucks have them
mounted on the side of the transmission, prone to water ingestion. It will light the engine light. I am not aware of them causing hard shifting. It's function is simple, indicate what
gear vehicle is in. I.E. park, drive, reverse.
