In 1985 at 17 I joined the Army Reserve and went to basic training at Ft. LeonardWood Mo. then came home to finish 12th grade. I had bad attendance and was put in I.R.R. for several years (this was in New York State) and I no longer went to drill meetings. In approx 1991 I was living in Florida and went back to New York and rejoined the reserves. I went to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Md. to train as a track vehicle repairer 63H) for 4 months and after that I transfered to the Florida National Guard into an Infantry unit and finished out my 3 years that I owed the military. During my time there Gov. Chilles called us to active duty in Miami after Hurricane Andrew hit there, we were there for 6 weeks on a humanitarian mission and road blocks etc. After my time was up I recieved an Honorable Discharge from the Guard and the Reserves. Am i entitled to any thing veteran related?

Not sure....I think it would be best if you were to contact the Department of Veteran Affairs and ask them. That way you'll get the truth and not the opinions, half-truths and distortions you're apt to get here.

Good luck!

No, you must have served for at least 181 days continuously, not for training, to be eligible. Or served in a designated combat zone for 31 days continuously, or have received a combat related injury.

If you received an Honorable Discharge, you are at least technically a veteran. I received an 'Entry level separation' from the Marines before the end of basic training. The VA tells me I'm technically a veteran. I don't claim the title.

You would probably need to contact your local county veteran's representative to gain that information. Seems to me that you would be if you served three years in the guard/reserve.

I can't really tell from what you wrote, but if you served on active duty for at least 120 days, then you are a veteran.

Yes, you are a veteran. As long as you served and received an honorable discharge, you are a veteran of the armed forces. It doesn't matter if you went overseas.
