It would be a tough fight, both economies would pretty much die, but, at full strength, The United States would win, due to the fact that we would probably bomb the cities rather than take china head on (We do have a more advanced military and can bomb where they cannot in respect to America). Right now, I'm not sure how our current military strength would be able to stand against China's. It would still be a tough fight though.

It is said by some that England ruled the 19th century, America ruled the 20th, and China will rule the 21st. Personally, I don't doubt it. There are many things that set apart the western view of the world and the Chinese- one of them is that while Americans usually are thinking about what is more profitable for the short-term, in the past, China has proven to be more concerned with the long term.
Also, the Chinese have been amazingly organized in the past- which led them to beat America to a pulp already- think about the Korean war, in which Chinese guerilla troups crossed a river overnight without being spotted while Americans refused to believe that they were evening thinking about attacking.
Mao Zedong was able to rally most of the peasants in China when he fought the Nationalists back in the fourties. Mao is now gone, but there sure are a whole lot of peasants with nothing to loose, and so much to gain. As Mao said- "all power flows from the barrel of the gun."

It all depends on the circumstances; in a nuclear standoff, the US would definitely win because we have far more nukes than they do unless they hacked into the Pentagon or something dramatic.

If they invaded a US ally like Taiwan or South Korea, the US response would probably be limited to avoid provoking a nuclear standoff. The main thing the Chinese lack is the ability to sustain their forces, even across short distances, so we would have a shot at winning, but not a big one.

Although they outnumber us four-to-one in population alone and benefit from a draft, they would not be able to transport a large force across the Pacific, making an invasion of the US impossible.

If China really wanted to make war on the US, they'd supply terrorist groups and nations like Iran and North Korea to weaken the US military and spread them out until the American people lose their will. This will prompt a US retreat from its position as a world power, leaving China to fill the vacuum. My guess is they're already doing this.

China's working hard on building up their military; maybe in 10 years they'll be a threat to the US homeland, but right now I doubt it.

There would be no winners in this war Im afraid. Read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu and then start investing in an education. Specifically Military and strategic studies. When you have an idea of what you are talking about, then come back here and ask an educated question.

China because of all the goods they trade with us would stop and we would be devastated. Another thing is that the politicians would screw things up a bit. Plus China and tones more people than us. But even with all those factors against the U.S. It would be an extremely tough fight with hundreds of thousands perhaps millions of casualties on either side.

Considering the Chinese out number the Americans almost 5 to 1... I'm gonna be a little realistic and say that the US would be in some serious trouble in this scenario !

Yes, with current capabilities and if America could muster up the will to win, keep the politicians out of the war, and let the military fight to WIN.
That capability may vanish in a decade or so.

China you idiots! have you learned nothing from Iraq!
No amount of bombs, sophisticated technology,is going to beat boots on the ground. The US would be royally f*&ked by millions of fanatical troops in the chinese army. Not to mention the other milllions willing to strap explosives to themselves in order to save their country! Its not rocket science!
