Wouldn't you agree that Jesus and other people in the Bible would be very dark, since they are Middle Eastern? Or at least much darker than the depictions of them? What are your thoughts on this?

By the way, this question isn't meant to offend anyone. I'm seriously just curious. It won't change my opinion at all.

Well doesn't the bible say that David was real light toned and would have red cheeks when he'd blush. I agree middle-easterns are generally dark but it wouldn't be impossible for Jesus to have light skin. I'm dark and I don't get red cheeks.. just a note.

That scripture you quote is resembling what you will possibly call a Hebraism. i do no longer understand what it rather is noted as for the Greek, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it rather is a asserting it rather is sensible interior the unique language yet has a completely distinctive which ability if translated to a distinctive language. in this occasion it ability that if a guy performs the part of a girl (sexually) it rather is a shame unto him. so a techniques as Jesus' visual charm, the main distinctive description is that of Pontius Pilate. some examples - There exist interior the Hebrew language numerous idiomatic words that don't translate actual to extra appreciably used languages. To the quantity those broader cultures count number for cultural which ability on Hebrew-language-based scriptures, those idioms especially cases instruct confusing. author David Bivin provides examples of a few complicated Hebrew idioms: "be'arba enayim, actually 'with 4 eyes,' ability head to head with out the presence of a third person, as in, 'the two adult men met with 4 eyes.' [The term] lo dubim ve lo ya'ar is rather '[There are] neither bears nor woodland,' yet ability that some thing is carefully fake. Jesus would have had darker skin.

Important characters in people's religion always look similar to the people in their culture. Jesus is commonly depicted as a white man in the Western hemisphere because we generally have a white culture.

I'm not sure how to better explain that. :x

Yes. It makes to me that JESUS would be darker than the blonde hair and blue eyes you see in several pictures. However, people can better relate to and sometimes feel more comfortable with people that look like them. I think that may be the reason for the different features that are on the pictures of JESUS CHRIST. Good luck and GOD bless you!

Yes, he was Jewish. Most depictions are of a white european Jesus. This is typical of a lot of early art. Many artists had no conception of even what the land of Israle looked like, so when they painted Bible scenes, the backgrounds looked like Rome!

I believe that you are correct. The common picture of Jesus that we've come to know over the past 500 years or so is due to the heavy European influence of the Church. I think you will see, with time, that the image of Jesus may change to a more correct ethnic one.

I've seen black churches with depictions of Jesus as black. It's all your idea of what he is to you I guess.

Isn't it kind of ironic that Jesus was Middle Eastern, I mean with all that's going on with Americans hating them and claiming to love Jesus. The world is one big contradiction.

All the representations of people from the Bible that I've seen have been with dark hair, bronze skin, and dark eyes, except for some from the Renaissance.

what most people think about the bible is actually false. in fact most christians would change religions if they thuroughly read the whole thing. did you know that christianity is NOT neccsarily monotheistic? it never says in the bible that there are no other gods. just that they dont come before yahweh. early christians worshipped many gods below yahweh. the one and only aspect was added far after the bible was ever written.

Yes, you're right. They would have darker skin and hair. But, whatever floats the artist who's depicting him's boat... Plus we're all so used to seeing him look like we think of him, that at this point, no one would know who you were painting...
