Ive been dating this guy for awhile now and he is 23 years old and I am 17. We have had sex. I live in New York and I know the age of consent is 17 but i heard somewhere that it is only legal for a 4 year age difference, so the guy has to be 21 or below. Is this illegal what were doing?

im not asking for your opinion of our relationship and saying why cant he find a girl his own age? thats none of your business,you have no right to judge me or him because you dont know A. How we met B. What weve been through and C. How much we love eachother... I wanted to know just in case my parents find out not because i have doubts, we didnt know eachothers age until about a month into the relationship it was too late we couldnt leave eachother because age is just a number and thats it, i was forced to grow up pretty early so im mature not a child but thanks for the advice anyways, just thought id give you some advice to not judge before you know =)

Sorry. I don't know but maybe you can call your local welfare office and ask them. You could use a pay phone.

The age of consent is 17, but the partner must be younger than 21. If the partner is over 21, then yes, it is illegal.
23 and 17 huh....kind of creepy, don't you think? He can't get someone his own age he has to pick up highschool aged girls?
When you're 23, picture yourself going out with a 17 year old boy and tell me you won't be creeped out.

If your parents found out they could have the guy arrested and charge the guy with sexual assault. Then he would serve some jail time and be liable for civil damages. In addition he would be added to the registry of sex offenders and not be able to find certain kinds of jobs. While in jail he would be sexually assaulted himself because most prisoners don't like men who take advantage of young girls.
Why not find a nice 17 year old? Or perhaps wait until you are 21 and better able to handle the emotions involved in sexuality.

I'm just wondering what a 23 year old guy is doing with a 17 year old anyway. Doesn't that strike you as strange? Can't he communicate with women his own age? Of is he more confident pulling younger, naive, inexperience girls?

if you were doing the right thing, you wouldn't have to worry about the legality of it. your questions mean that you have doubts. put the relationship on hold till you can finish growing up. you don't have much longer till you are a member of the adult world. enjoy the last bits of childhood.

he can proably put into jail but if you really like him just wait you are 18 to be wirh him because age aint nothin but a number if your really love that person
