Sounds like it could be parkinsons.

We have a program on our local radio. The doctor tells us about a real life situation with a real patient. He tells us all the symptoms of the patient and then listeners will call in with their diagnoses. It is very entertaining.

Sounds like a nervous break down or a bad dream (but he is awake), I use to get those a lot when I was a kid. I would be awake and scared out of my tree but could not snap out of it. Just my uneducated guess.
