a registry cleaner on it's own will only help your systems performance very slightly.
try running the free trial of windows live onecare. http://onecare.live.com select the full system scan this can take several hours depending on your systems configuration as every file and folder is checked for malware, your system identifies problems in the registry and other problems etc.

if you want an independant registry cleaner a good one that i use is from iexpert called registry clean expert. http://registry-clean.net
this is a system performance tool, by clearing out your registry and your browser history files etc. it also provides easy access to other essential system files. though making changes manually to any of the files could leave your system unusable and would require a system restore disk to be used. to recover from your last known good recovery point or backup.

system performance is determined by many different factors.
cpu, RAM, virtual ram, cache ram hard drive speed to name just a few of the main points. ram chips have different voltage requirements and you can seepd up performance by running your ram a little over voltage (this is not recomended as it shortens the life expectancy of the ram modulesand would require you to add ram heat sinks to your system at around £10 fitted each module.
the cpu and system can also be run over voltage though in my experiance running an amd over voltage slows down the performance of the system. however any system run over the design voltage of the attached compnents could result in an unstable and slow system as well as shortening the life span of the entire system of connected compnents.
so overclock at your discretion. and remember overclocking can take a while to get right until you find the best combination of settings for peak performance on your computer. this however should not be done lightly as one false move could crash and or kill your motherboard etc and could be costly to resolve.

if your system is running pc2100 ram try speeding up performance by buying and installing pc2700. increase the ram to the maximum speed and capacity your system can handle.
see if you can buy a faster processor for your system. (check the socket number on the system board then look up the socket type online and see what processors are still available if any.
sorry to ramble on. but having custom built my systems i thought i'd pass on a few nuggetts of what i had learned over the years. and yes the ram listed is only a basic guide. there are faster ram speeds and types available. you will have to shop around for the right ram etc for your system.

good luck.

Absolutely of ZERO benefit the use of those registry tunners. That defragmatizer is baloney too. You have the same thing in your own computer as a System program

However, what is of use are a group of "optomizers" for your computer known as "patches" most are developed by Micorsoft or reputable computer software companies. These optomize your connection, set your registry to optimum for your particular condition.

These are what the Pros use. You will need to study the list, then select the ones which apply to your particular computer, its software, its connection type and so on.

No registery cleaner can speed up your system, but it can help your computer to run better and also fix problems in your computer.
My advice: download the "Wise Registry Cleaner" and also the CCleaner - both are free and very good. I use them myself and I am very satisfied. I also must say that both softwares are very safe - I only use these two softwares to fix my computer problems, because they're really safe!

Greetings from Germany...
