Cool. You're just like me. I'm 16, female and weigh 170 pounds. I'm also 5'4'' tall and want to lose about thirty pounds.
What I'm going to do is cut back on eatting and start excersicing. Go to wal mart and buy a fitness tape. There are these really fun ones called Dancing off the Inches. I love the salsa one and the tummy toning party. They're so much fun and you don't even notice that you're working out untill you feel your muscles tingling. They cost 10.00 each
Taebo is fun, but really tough. I bought a 20 min taebo tape at my Dollar general for 5.00 But the dancing tapes are better.
Next, for my eatting habits, I've decided to eat only 1400 calories per day. I won't deprive myself of anything, i'll just cut back. That, and substitute. Instead of Ice Cream, Try Vanilla Frozen Yougurt, in your fav. brand. There's also Chocolate and Strawberry too. Sherbert is better than ice cream too!
Try substituting Soda for flavored water or iced tea. It really saves you about 100-200 calories right there.
Eat slower. I'm going to try to chew my food about 20 times before i swallow because it gives your stomach more time to notice that you're full.
Instead of snacking on popcorn and candy in front of the tv, put a certain amount in a bowl.
That's what i'm doing. I also asked for advice for my weight loss not too long ago. yOu can click to see my profile and look at that question if you like.
Good luck and keep me posted!

Fortunately you said 175 and not 275. At 16 you are still growing. You may not think so but you are. I continued to grow into my late 20's. Eventually your body will probably grow into your weight but if weight loss is a priority in your life or you have to loose this weight for mental or physical reasons than you will probably want to consult a physician. I would like to tell you how I was able to loose weight.
I was clear up to 238lbs. For breakfast I would eat a grapefruit. I would walk at least 2 miles and then start my day. At lunch I would pretty much eat a normal meal. A sandwhich but instead of the normal chips or pastry, I'd have some celery with a small amount of peanut butter. Dinner was tough. I started eating alot of salads. Hard to get full at first. In fact I all but gave up on the whole weight loss thing because I just never seemed to be full. I was eating something that was green and grew from dirt till I was going to bed. I still ate some meat but instead of the 16oz portion I was now into the 4-6oz portion. After about a month was when I first started to notice the loss of weight. Within 3 months I was down to 165, feeling and looking alot better. Then I started working out even more. With my new found dieting skills and execise program I gained a few pounds back but I didn't care. I have never even gotten close to 238 again.
Take your time. Don't worry if you don't see immediate results and try to remember you are only 16. I know you will be just fine.

Try avoiding the pitfalls to most diets: sodas, candy, potato chips and fast food. They are loaded with additives that keep you from losing weight even when you give it your best effort. In addition, drink plenty of water and take at least an hours worth of exercise a day. Most importantly, don't try to rush it! You are still young and weight should come off slowly (2-3 pounds a week on average). That means that with food modifications and exercise you should reach your target in roughly six months -- not six weeks. Good luck.

you have to find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and thats how much you need to lose weight the healthy way.
8 glasses of water a day
5-8 servings of fruits and veggies a day
portion control - 5-6small meals a day instead of 3 big ones
cardio 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
