Hello, all:

I've been asked to officiate at three handfastings (one this summer, two this fall), and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good handfasting resources, either online or in book form? I already know about http://www.handfasting.info/ but was hoping for some from a bit further afield.

Or if someone has recommendations based on personal experience, that would also be excellent.

These will be the first handfastings I've ever performed, so I'm a bit nervous!

Are you looking for actual rituals or just descriptions of rituals? There's a nice description of Handfasting rituals here:
http://www.morbidoutlook.com/lifestyle/spirituality/2002_02_handfasting.html

A more thorough resource can be found here:
http://www.tryskelion.com/handfast.htm

Hope this helps! :)

My husband and I self-officiated our handfasting last July; you can see a description here:

I agree with folks who have said to get the people being handfasted as involved as possible. Sit down with them for a coupel of hours for each couple, and figure out what tradition you want to do it from, whats vows will be made, how elaborate everything will be, how many people will be involved with the actual ceremony, etc. Will there be nonpagans in attendance? Will a long ceremony be hard on people whose health may keep them from standing for a long time,. or children with short attention spans?

These are just a few things to think about.

Involve the people as much as possible. Any handfasting I have been to, the people getting married had a lot to do with preparing the whole thing. It normally involved their personal choice of deities as well as ritual. Seems like each one was totally different from the others.

You will be fine. =)

I bought a book for my brother and sister-in-law called "Romantic Guide to Handfasting - Rituals, Recipes and Lore" by Anna Franklin. They were married a few years ago by a justice of the peace, but this summer want to do it "right" by their standards. I found it on Ebay, but you might be able to find it at Amazon.com. Good luck!

Congrats they're beautiful... I've seen a book on it at Borders but didn't buy since I'm not Wiccan anymore and therefore can't remember the title... check PentaclePress.com and see if they have anything... and good luck!
