well first of all find out why the other pool hall closed and how long it been colsed. and then find out if you can get a liquor license. find a decent location and big enough to be a pool hall. rent has to be cheap because you need at lease 6000 sq/ft. try to get a good lease, have the landlord help you with some of your improvements. such as walls ready for paint, ceilings done, hvac system, etc. find out your city zoning, and building dep's regulation. try to keep the pool hall clean, open and have cheap table rate $2-$3 per person per hour. have a full kitchen and decent food. find nice staff, espeacially a good bartender. i own a poolhall and building my second one now. so if you have any questions email me at jetnifun@yahoo.com

I think you should open one, its the matter of location and what are you going to offer to the public, ask around to see what everyone is into, if hold em poker an nine ball is there game then have holdem poker tournaments and nine ball tournaments to attract ppl into your establishment, once you figure out how many pool tables and game areas your going to have you will need a good interior designer to design a modern looking pool hall, check out a few pool halls around your area or other city and see how there design is, find something tha will work for you and you will have a general idea what is involve

In the 70's and 80's these were quite popular, but they've almost all closed now. You rarely see one nowadays. Like pubs, they are obviously not in great demand now. A lot of pool players like to have a few beers - they'll go and play in the pub so that they can have a drink as well as a game of pool. I seriously doubt that there is any real call for this type of thing.

WOOO!!!! GO ITHACA!. You should open a pool hall. Its a great place for college people to cool down the day, and just hang out. have a bar, and a designated smoking and non smoking areas. you could have like a study spot too!

pool halls are great for socialization.

There may not be a lot of profit in it but if it's something you want to do go for it! First, you need to look into leasing the building. I work in commercial real estate so if you need help in negotiating a low rent, email me at lyndalu_98@yahoo.com. If there is still any equipment in the pool hall you can try to purchase it from the previous owner, that'll be better than buying everything new. You can probably get your employees for cheap if you hire college students.

Good luck!

If you have to go on to Yahoo! Answers to ask the people in "Cyber Space" if YOU should open a pool hall ... I am thinking No. Also, if the one that was downtown previously didnt survive, then the chances of yours surviving is slim to none.

you have to wonder why the previous one closed. Then start finding out what all the costs would be(and I mean for real all of them). Then think how you would pay for them.

well, if you have the money to open one, then open one.

try to find an easy-access area that is noticeable and is walkable from the residential area.

i hope this helps.
