Usually, I first ask for forgiveness of my sins. If I don't feel that I've committed any since the last time I asked, I ask God to reveal any hidden sins I may have committed. Then I start praying for various people I know that need prayer.
But that's only in my nightly prayers. Before that, I pray throughout the day whenever I feel the urge.

Well, to me, prayer isn't like imploring the magic genie to grant your wishes. But I often pray when I'm seeking. I never expect my deities to hand me anything, simply offer wisdom, insight, or help me find the strength within myself for something. So I really don't technically wish for anything. For me, prayers and wishes are two entirely different things. But I sometimes ask for things, like I'll send out positivity for someone else and pray that they receive it. That sort of thing. I just really object to the term "wish". I don't know why. It's a personal issue.

Praying isn't like blowing candles out on a birthday cake, its a divine thing, so basically you're asking a divine being e.g. God to bless you (give) you something. Praying involves asking not wishing, and its also determined by the being in which you are paying for and if they see fit to bless you with it. Sometimes, when you pray for something you may not get it because God works in mysterious ways.

Generally, when I pray I listen to God; I do not wish for anything in particular. If I have to wish for something however, it would be to understand God better.

When I pray, I express my gratitude for what blessings I have that come to my loved ones and myself every day.......
I also find myself asking for The Goddess' wisdom and grace to persevere through adversity and hardship.
And ask as often as I remember for a greater degree of peace and contentment.

The first thing I do when I pray is thank God for my blessings. His love, family and friends, food, health, home, and freedom. I pray for those who don't have those blessings.

First I forgive people who have sinned against me. Then I pray for the leaders of this country, asking for practicing conservative Christians to get into office.

First and foremost I thank God for all my blessings, then I pray for my little foster daughter and her parents, who are strung out on meth, then I move on to my children, other peoples prayer requests, then I thank God Again. Sometimes I ADD and think of my shopping list, go back and try again. Sometimes I fall asleep. That's why I try to pray anytime I remember.

wish?
I don't wish for stuff - I talk to God. I begin by thanking Him for what I have
I ask if there's anything I need to change about myself and that I can learn to descern what the Lord's will is for me and do it.
I pray for others to be blessed and whatever else I feel led to pray for
