1. Local pound...
2. If your dog is a specific breed, there may be a rescue society - check the internet.
3. Also, if you have a regular vet, you can ask them if there are people looking or know of any people that will accept your dog. That's how I got my second dog, the vet recommended me to the previous owners and I was looking for a second dog.

You haven't said where you live so it's hard to say. Also do you mean a temporary home or a permanent one? In the UK we have the national charity, RSPCA which takes in dogs for permanent rehoming... ask your vet, your local council dog warden if your country has one etc.

You may wish to advertise privately and vet a new home personally, especially if this is just a temporary measure. If you are in the UK and you need a temporary home try your local rescue centre (the smaller ones tend to be more helpful). Should you be in UK ask Poplar Farm Kennels rescue centre for advice as they are marvellous (or leave me a way of contacting you as I am daft enough to take on an extra set of paws in emergency... I'm in County Durham)!

In the UK we have a few so-called extremist organisations such as the Animal Liberation Front. Don't be put off by the title or the bad press... where the big, national charities might tell you they can't help, these people will go to the end of the earth to assist. If you have any such a group in your country ring them, you may well be amazed at their contacts and willingness to help.

Good luck... I wish I had known all that I have told you many years back when I was forced to rehome a dog of my own because I couldn't find temporary care for him. Either way, be your need temporary or permanent, I'm sad for you, wish you all the best and urge you not to give up.... there are people out there who will help.

You have a lot of options, depending where you live. Start with your local vet and ask if there are any rescues or no-kill shelters in your area. If not, then check with your local Humane Society and they may be able to put you in touch with an animal foster home.

You can put an add on the notice board in some supemarkets or an ad in the local paper . Animal shelters would be an option but gives you no say in where your pet goes.

Do you have any friends or people at work that might be interested ?

If you can't keep your dog then you need a good home for it. Ask the Humane Society to help you locate a responsible owner for your dog.
