Unlike other Christian churches today, the LDS believe that there is a prophet, seer, and revelator on this earth (President Gordon B. Hinkely) and that revelations form God are still received in this dispensation and latter day. We know that the heavens are still open to us. If they were not, praying would be pointless. We would not be able to feel the Holy spirit guide and prompt us, as this is personal revelation as well. The Doctrine And Covenants, one of our standard works, is revelation from God through latter- day prophets. Check out http://www.lds.org

Prophets are God's laisons with his children on the Earth. Revelation is direction from God.
It's probably something like when Elijah went into the mountain, and there was an earthquake, a fire, and a storm, and the Lord was in none of them. Then came a still small voice and the Lord was in the small voice.

If you're truly interested, consider logging on to lds.org. Look around, check the commonly asked questions and their answers and then review the scriptures at the tab.
Basically, prophets are with us today and so is modern revelation. One example of current revelations can be seen in the scriptures called the Doctrine and Covenants.

Don't listen to Mormons unless you want to get really confused.
